Air France-KLM invests in CSafe’s new cool-chain containers

Air France KLM Martinair Cargo has acquired the services of cool-chain container manufacturer CSafe Global to utilize its CSafe RAP active-temperature-controlled containers, specially designed for pharmaceutical transportation.

The RAP container – equipped with a compressor-driven cooling and heating system – was approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in January. Designed to keep shipments within strict temperature parameters, the product is ideal for temperature-sensitive freight like pharma products.

“The industry has identified lanes where efficiencies can be achieved by utilizing RAPs versus multiple RKNs,” said Sebastien Berrous, director of global strategic sales and key account director at CSafe, referring to the company’s older-model RKN containers. “The CSafe RAP offers the expanded cargo capacity, up to five Euro pallets or four U.S. pallets, needed to accommodate larger cold-chain shipments.”

Air France-KLM cited the containers’ long-lasting battery life of more than 100 hours, and its ability to maintain cargo’s integrity in ambient temperatures, as reasons for its investments in RAP containers.
